Tooth Whitening

Whiten your teeth safely and professionally using PHILIPS Zoom Day White at-home whitening kit. Whitening your teeth is a really easy way to make a huge difference in your smile. It is simple, safe and minimally invasive.

There are a number of reasons teeth can darken or have an uneven appearance: staining from food and drinks (especially tannins in tea, coffee and red wine!), tobacco use, some types of medicines, too much fluoride ingestion (often from eating toothpaste as a child!), the delightful ageing process... the list goes on!

You may have tried using whitening toothpastes and not found much joy. This is because they often contain abrasive ingredients to remove the surface staining, called extrinsic staining. Often, the best and least damaging way to remove this type of staining is having a professional clean (Hygienist/Dentist).

However, just like life, staining is not simple. Another reason you may have found whitening toothpastes ineffective is because it is not able to tackle the discolouration that has occurred within the tooth, called intrinsic staining. This is where tooth whitening comes in!

How does it work?

There are number of different whitening gels on the market, but PHILIPS Zoom DayWhite uses 6% Hydrogen Peroxide to penetrate the outer surface of your tooth (enamel) to target the discoloured molecules. The whitening process is an oxidation process - oxygen molecules from the whitening agent react with the discoloured molecules in your teeth and causes the bonds to break that hold them together. This will hopefully help you understand that whitening won't damage your teeth (when used under the direction of a Dental Professional).

PHILIPS Zoom Day White also contains Fluoride and Amorphous Calcium Phosphate (ACP) which helps reduce sensitivity.

Is whitening safe?

The process of whitening using gels supplied by Dental Professionals is safe because we are regulated as to what strengths of active whitening ingredients we can use. It also does not abrade the teeth like whitening toothpastes. Sometimes patients suffer from gum irritation if the gel oozes onto the gum. This highlights the importance of using custom-made trays by your Dentist/Dental Professional and not over-filling the trays.

What does home tooth whitening involve?

Initially you will need to have a consultation with your Dentist/Dental Therapist/Hygienist. Here we can address your concerns and what you want to achieve. Remember, tooth whitening may not be appropriate for everyone/every type of stain.

Following this, we can take some moulds (impressions) of your teeth so that we can make trays that are bespoke to your mouth and teeth.
